the coffee (espresso)
“Un caffè” means an espresso. For anything else you say it explicitly: cappuccino, macchiato, lungo.
il cornetto il cor-NET-to
the croissant
The classic Italian breakfast: cornetto + cappuccino, standing at the bar. A cornetto can be vuoto (plain), alla crema or alla marmellata.
lo zucchero lo TSÙC-che-ro
the sugar
Sugar usually comes in packets by the register. A “caffè corretto” has a splash of liquor, not extra sugar.
la spremuta la spre-MÙ-ta
the fresh juice
“Spremuta” = squeezed on the spot, unlike “succo” (from a carton). Orange “spremuta” is the classic.

At many bars you pay FIRST at the cassa, get a scontrino (receipt), then order at the counter showing it.
