the «TAXI» sign
Official taxis are WHITE, with “TAXI” on the roof and a license number. Take them from a “posteggio” (rank) or via app — avoid “abusivi” (unofficial ones).

the meter (taximeter)
Always ask for the meter on. From the airport to the center, some cities have a “tariffa fissa” (fixed price) — ask in advance.

Give the exact address or a landmark (“vicino a…”). Historic centers have “ZTL” — restricted traffic zones, where taxis can still enter.

The seatbelt is mandatory for everyone, including in the back seat. “Allacciare la cintura” = to fasten your seatbelt.

For large luggage there can be a “supplemento bagagli” (small fee) — it shows on the meter or the rate card.
