You're at the reception of a German hotel. Listen to the receptionist (Jonas), then choose how to reply — tap an answer to hear its pronunciation and see its translation, then confirm. What you pick changes what he says. Open “Vocabulary” for the words (or “Explore the scene”) and tap “🗣️ On the street” for the real language.

What you'll learn here

Key words

die Rezeption di re-țep-ȚIÓN
the reception
“Die Rezeption” (or “der Empfang”) = the reception. Key check-in phrase: “Ich habe ein Zimmer reserviert” = I have reserved a room. “Einchecken/Auschecken” = check in/check out.
das Doppelzimmer das DO-păl-ți-măr
the double room
“Das Doppelzimmer” = double room; “das Einzelzimmer” = single room. Note: “Doppelbett” (one big bed) vs. “zwei Einzelbetten” (two separate beds). “Übernachtung” = overnight stay.
das Frühstück das FRÜ-știk
breakfast
Always ask: “Ist das Frühstück inklusive?” = is breakfast included? “Das Frühstücksbuffet” = buffet. German breakfast is hearty: bread, cheeses, cold cuts, eggs, “Brötchen” (rolls).
die Schlüsselkarte di ȘLÜ-săl-kar-te
the key card
“Die Schlüsselkarte” (or “die Keycard”) = the magnetic card. A classic key = “der Schlüssel”. At some hotels you leave the key at reception when going out. “Die Zimmernummer” = the room number.
der Aufzug der AUF-țuk
the elevator
“Der Aufzug” (or “der Fahrstuhl”) = the elevator. Mind the floors: “das Erdgeschoss (EG)” = ground floor, “der erste Stock / die erste Etage” = first floor (above the ground floor). So “1. Stock” is NOT the ground floor!

How locals really say it

Not the textbook version — the real language you hear in German.

“Tag! Was kann ich für Sie tun?” — Hello! What can I do for you?
“Reserviert?” — Reserved?
“Alles da. Ihren Ausweis, bitte?” — All here. Your ID, please?
“Wie ist der Name?” — What's the name?
