At the museum in German

You're at the ticket desk of a German museum. Listen to the staff member (Petra), then choose how to reply — tap an answer to hear its pronunciation and see its translation, then confirm. What you pick changes what she says. Open “Vocabulary” for the words (or “Explore the scene”) and tap “🗣️ On the street” for the real language.

What you'll learn here

Key words

die Eintrittskarte di AIN-trits-kar-te
the entry ticket
“Die Eintrittskarte” (or just “die Karte” / “das Ticket”) = the entry ticket. “Der Eintritt” = entry/admission. Note: “Eintritt frei” = free admission — many museums have one free-entry day a month.
ermäßigt er-ME-sigt
reduced (price)
“Ermäßigt” = reduced price (for students, seniors, children, the unemployed). You must show an ID (“der Ausweis”) — they often ask for a “Studentenausweis” (student card). The opposite is “der Normalpreis” / “voll” (full price).
der Audioguide der AU-dio-gaid
the audio guide
“Der Audioguide” = the headset device that plays explanations. It often costs extra and comes in several languages (“auf Englisch?” = in English?). You usually leave an ID or a deposit when you take it.
die Garderobe di gar-de-RO-be
the cloakroom
“Die Garderobe” = where you leave your coat and backpack. In German museums it's often MANDATORY — big backpacks aren't allowed in the halls. It's usually free or uses a locker (“das Schließfach”) with a returnable coin.
die Führung di FÜÜ-rung
the guided tour
“Eine Führung” = a tour with a guide (a person who explains). “Die nächste Führung” = the next tour. Often at fixed times and for an extra fee; some are included in the ticket (“im Eintritt inbegriffen”).

How locals really say it

Not the textbook version — the real language you hear in German.

“Tag! Was kann ich für Sie tun?” — Hello! What can I do for you?
“Karten? Wie viele?” — Tickets? How many?
“Voll oder ermäßigt?” — Full or reduced?
“'n Audioguide gibt's auch — sehr praktisch.” — There's an audio guide too — really handy.
