At the hotel — Spanish

What you'll learn here

Key words

la llave la LLA-ve
the key
Often it's “la tarjeta” (keycard). “La habitación” = the room; “la planta” = the floor; “la planta baja” = the ground floor.
el documento (DNI) el do-cu-MEN-to
the ID document
In Spain the hotel MUST register your ID at check-in (by law). “El DNI” is the Spanish ID card; you give your passport. They give it right back.
la maleta la ma-LE-ta
the suitcase
“La consigna” = where you can leave bags before check-in or after check-out. “El equipaje” = the luggage.
el timbre el TIM-bre
the (reception) bell
If no one's there, ring “el timbre”. In small hotels reception closes at night (only big ones have “recepción 24h”).
el desayuno el de-sa-YU-no
breakfast
“Breakfast included” is common; typically a buffet or “tostada con tomate” + coffee. Usually 7:30–10:30.

How locals really say it

Not the textbook version — the real language you hear in Spanish.

“¡Buenas! Bienvenido, pasa.” — Hi! Welcome, come in.
“¿Has reservado?” — Have you booked?
“El pasaporte o el DNI, porfa.” — Passport or ID, please.
“Habitación doce, segunda planta. Desayuno incluido, ¿eh?” — Room twelve, second floor. Breakfast included, okay?
