the green «LIBRE» light
Official taxis show a green light + a “LIBRE” sign when free. They're white (Madrid) or black with a stripe (Barcelona). Get them from a “parada de taxis” (rank) or via app.

the meter (taximeter)
Taxis always use “el taxímetro” by law. From the airport to the center there's often a “tarifa fija” (fixed price) — ask in advance.

the sat-nav (GPS)
Give the exact address or a landmark (“cerca de…”). Historic centers have a “zona peatonal” where cars can't enter.

the seatbelt
The seatbelt is mandatory for everyone, including in the back. “Abróchate el cinturón” = fasten your seatbelt.

the suitcase
“El maletero” = the trunk. For large luggage there may be a small “suplemento”, especially from the airport.
