What you'll learn here

Key words

la entrada la en-TRA-da
the ticket (entry)
“La entrada” = the museum ticket. Many big museums (El Prado, Reina Sofía) have free entry at certain hours (often in the evening). “La entrada general” = full ticket.
la audioguía la au-dio-GUÍ-a
the audio guide
“La audioguía” is rented; “la visita guiada” = a guided tour (a person), at set times. Ask which languages they're in.
la exposición la ex-po-si-CIÓN
the exhibition
“La exposición temporal” (often a separate ticket) vs “la colección permanente”. “El cuadro” = the painting; “la sala” = the room.
el guardarropa el guar-da-RRO-pa
the cloakroom
Backpacks and large bags must be left at “el guardarropa” (often free). Flash photos are usually forbidden.
el plano el PLA-no
the map (floor plan)
The museum “plano” is often free at the entrance. Ask where the key works are (“las obras principales”).

How locals really say it

Not the textbook version — the real language you hear in Spanish.

“¡Buenas! ¿Cuántas entradas?” — Hi! How many tickets?
“¿Cuántas son?” — How many?
“¿Tienes descuento? ¿Estudiante, jubilado?” — Any discount? Student, retired?
“Cerramos a las ocho, ¿eh?, última entrada a las siete.” — We close at eight, okay?, last entry at seven.
