the report (complaint)
“Poner una denuncia” = to file an official report. For theft or lost documents, the report is needed for insurance and to replace your papers.
la cartera la car-TE-ra
the wallet
“El robo” = theft; “el carterista” = pickpocket; “el tirón” = bag snatch. In crowded areas, watch out for “carteristas”.

the passport
If you lose your passport: file the report at the police, then go to your consulate/embassy for a new one. Keep a copy separately!
