In France you rarely flag a taxi on the street — you take one from “la station de taxi” (a white/blue sign) or book it by app or phone (G7 in Paris, Bolt, Uber). A free taxi (“libre”) has the TAXI roof light lit up.

Paris's main airports are Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle (CDG, to the north) and Orly (to the south). You just say “À l'aéroport, terminal 2” or the name: “À Roissy”. For airport runs the fare is often a fixed legal price (see “le compteur”).

Always ask for “le compteur” to be on. It starts with a “prise en charge” (pick-up fee) plus a per-km rate. Exception in Paris: CDG↔centre and Orly↔centre runs have a “forfait” (regulated fixed price: for CDG about €56 to the Right Bank / €65 to the Left Bank; for Orly about €36/€44), so the meter doesn't apply there.

the receipt
“Un reçu” (or “une note”, “une facture”) is the ride receipt — handy for expenses or if you leave something behind. Official taxi drivers must give you one on request. Card is accepted in official taxis; say in advance “Je paie par carte”.

the tip
Tipping a taxi isn't obligatory in France — you round up or leave €1–2 if the driver was nice or helped with the luggage. You say “Gardez la monnaie” (keep the change) or “C'est bon comme ça”.

“Bonjour ! On va où ?” — Hello! Where are we headed?
“C'est pour aller où ?” — Where's it to?
“C'est quel terminal ?” — Which terminal is it?
“Pour Roissy, c'est forfait, hein. 56, c'est réglementé.” — To Roissy it's a flat rate, you know. 56, it's regulated.
