Most hotels use a “chiave magnetica” (keycard). At some hotels it also activates the elevator/floor.

In Italy, the hotel MUST register your ID at check-in (by law). They scan it and give it right back — don't worry.

“Deposito bagagli” = you can leave your bags at reception before check-in or after check-out, free or for a small fee.

If no one's at the desk, ring the bell. In small hotels the reception closes at night (“night porter”).

“Breakfast included” is common; it's sweet (cornetto, biscuits, cappuccino), not savory. Usually 7:00–10:00.

“Ha prenotato?” — Have you booked?
“Un documento, grazie.” — An ID, thanks.
“Camera dodici, secondo piano. Colazione inclusa, eh!” — Room twelve, second floor. Breakfast included, you know!
